I read this for a class on Reader’s Advisory. The only other western I have ever read was the Lonesome Dove series and this certainly can’t compare to that! However, I’m glad I read it because it helped me to understand the appeal of this genre. It is fast paced with lots of action and did add to my knowledge of the Texas Republic. The story centers on a Mexican named Rubio who decides to fight with Texas against his own country.
